We are currently seeking a Vascular-trained Neurologist desiring a leadership opportunity as stroke medical director of our comprehensive stroke center (0.1 FTE of total 1.0 FTE position). This Full-Time position has an emphasis on inpatient neurology (24/7, 7 days on/7 days off work schedule) with an estimated 15-20 patients/day. This is a consult-only service, including consults in the intensive care unit, general medical floor, and the emergency room. The job requires management of all acute (nonsurgical) neurological problems, including acute stroke. We are partnered with the University of Minnesota. You will be expected to lead a large teaching service comprised of residents, interns, medical students, and a stroke APP. First call for all consults, including at night, are managed by the in house neurology residents. The staff neurologist is not expected to be in the hospital after hours. Endovascular coverage is provided by the University of Minnesota. Opportunities for research and involvement in clinical trials available to motivated applicants. All neurologists in our department have the opportunity to seek professorship appointment at the University of Minnesota. The ideal candidate will be comfortable treating acute neurological issues, have an academic mindset, and dedicated to the treatment of the underserved. Although this position is focused on inpatient neurology, the balance of inpatient vs outpatient is negotiable.
Hours are M-F (8 am-6 pm) in the hospital and on-call (pager) after hours and weekends 8 am to the end of rounds, and pager call thereafter. One week call is considered 7 am Monday to 7 am the following Monday.
Our providers work closely with learners throughout the hospital. Physicians are expected to take an active role in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students through direct patient care and formal/informal lectures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice Medicine in the State of Minnesota or be eligible for licensure
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology
- If Board Eligible, must be Board Certified within 4 years from the date of completion of the applicable residency, fellowship or training program
